Resonant Trails

Resonant Trails is a reserach project that will follow me around ancient routes across South America. Having investigated architectural and human resonance in both Scotland and Italy, I now want to expand my research further and travel to a new continent to see how resonance sits within the lanscapes of South America. South America is stongly rooted to the ancient practices of sound and aural culture. It is home to some of the most diverse andĀ indigenous cultures of the world and it’s isolated landscapes form homage to ancient civilisations. The Inca Trail in Peru and the Monolithic statues of Easter Island areĀ  left behind as visual motifs to remind us of our ancestors and how we used to lived and inhabit these spaces. On my journey I want to investigate how these sacred spaces resonate within todays landscape and if they preserve any trails to their former inhabitants. As a sound artist, I plan to create a creative discourse through field- recordings and site-specific performances, building an archive of sound pieces that I can later form into a larger body of work. This would also be linked back to my research done both in Scotland and Italy to create a reflecting a dialogue between all my journeys.
